Ebay spotlight

With the launch of ebay as a fashion retailer selling new items direct from the label rather than second hand and vintage items they wanted an application that was engaging and interactive, but it was also a brand piece to promote this shift in business.

Selling new items direct from the label was very new to the ebay user base and the design had to be modern, hight st and engaging. Along with different challenges around inventory and metadata we had to design an experience that coped with this and also ebays ‘hyper abundance’ issue. The solution was a system that relied on filtering and a flat hierarchy and an element of discovery and journey. The flat hierarchy was able to cater for the content aggregation and the immesly varying meta data while tools such as the ‘brand machine’ was developed to allow users to discover what brands ebay had for sale.

Tesco Concept

Developing a concept piece for the future of tesco entertainment. With the number of formats, channels and modes of media consumption ever changing the team was tasked with developing a thought piece around catering for the future of media entertainment. Working with the tesco team and the guys at spendid and developing on their idea of the digital locker we created a system that focussed on purchasing the title and not the format.

By focussing on the the title it allows for a platform agnostic experience model. We developed cross channel interaction models to allow the media to be enjoyed no matter what the situation the user would be in. From mobile, to streaming, to good old fashioned dvd we proposed a system that allowed for interaction and collaboration around media types and individuals to enjoy the content the way they wanted to without disrupting the experience for others. A truly tailored experience.

Working within the new technologies team and the ICAP pre-trade team to help develop a revolutionary application for portfolio trading. The application is designed to display huge amounts of selected data in a legible and logical fashion in order to aid the traders in making the correct decisions and projecting more accurate forecasts.

The application is designs with the idea that it would be able to leave the traders desk and out as a consumer product, so design had to be lgoical, semantic and well layed out as to cater for all levels of users.

The result was a state of the art, simple, logical and functional application that aids in important finacial decision making.

The online destination for one of the worlds biggest bands. Muse came to us to help them develop their website an online destination that was not just about finding information but about meeting, conversing and sharing all things Muse.

Shop integration and seemless purchasing was a must as well, without the constant pushing of products muse wanted to be able to subtelly suggest items to purchase. Along with muse wiki and fan content integration the interface had to be flexible enough to handle large amounts of current and archived information such as photos (official and fan), tour dates and more all being mapped over time and geographically.

Approached by quick.tv to design and deploy an innovative, interactive web application for video enhancement and playback. The application had to include the ability for people to edit, add sound, and incorporate interactive elements into their video. With the aim to empower users and allow them to gain the ultimate potential from their online video.

The Application had to encompass the features to allow users to add video hotspots, text, annotations, chapter markers and many more interactions to their video. Surrounding this application had to be a website that housed all the video uploaded, encoded and deployed. This Website had to give the users the ability to browse all their projects and activity on their site, also giving them the ability to track the performance of their videos online.

With a fully customisable player, the ability to create your own channels and and innovative flash interface, quick.tv is a fullservice for both professional and novice web video producers.

Play.com are one of the countries largest online retailer. with an allready established brand and customer base of over 500, 000 users.

Play came to splendid to help expand its user base, increase the level of user experience and help promote the diversity and range of products available on play.com

Working closely with the client we were able to understand what play.com wanted to achieve with this project, also help the client understand the potential of their website with the enhancement of user experience. Conducting a series of user tests at flow interactive we were able to demonstrate to the client the value and benefits of the work undergone.

Microsoft – NHS

Microsoft wished to extend the capabilities of an initial project built in silverlight. This update of the application was to include numerouse new data sources along with detailed new data visualisations.

The interaction design and information architecture of the application was re-worked to allow the user to navigate through all the visualisations and dig deeper into the data.

The application included the use of 3D modeling software to display the data broken up into geographic locations throught the United Kingdom. The application was built using Windows Presentation Foundation (wpf) and xaml.

Microsoft Surface

For the dConstruct 2009 UX conference in Brighton we developed a simple twitter application to showcase the microsoft surface technology. The application was a simple Twitter aggregator, pulling in all the tweets revolving around the conference, giving attendees the opportunity to drag tweets around, explore and find their own while also gaining visibility as to what people were thinking about the conference in real time.

For a PR evening we designed a couple of small Microsoft Surface application to demonstrate the capabilities of Microsoft Surface. For the kind suppliers of the evenings Vodka a small application was designed to demonstrate how Microsoft Surface could be used in a bar and retail environment allowing the people to see what vodka cocktails were available and a tip on how to enjoy them.

Working with one of the worlds largest online retailers to rework their deals page. The project focused on user experience with the aim to increase conversion and make it eBays premier Christmas destination.

Through numerous user tests and focus groups across the UK and Germany I worked with the client to best develop a solution that would be easily implemented with eBays current technology platform.

We worked extensively on the theory of cognitive bias and affordances to improve sale conversion whilst cleaning and simplifying the design to improve comprehension of eBays offering.
