With the launch of ebay as a fashion retailer selling new items direct from the label rather than second hand and vintage items they wanted an application that was engaging and interactive, but it was also a brand piece to promote this shift in business.

Selling new items direct from the label was very new to the ebay user base and the design had to be modern, hight st and engaging. Along with different challenges around inventory and metadata we had to design an experience that coped with this and also ebays ‘hyper abundance’ issue. The solution was a system that relied on filtering and a flat hierarchy and an element of discovery and journey. The flat hierarchy was able to cater for the content aggregation and the immesly varying meta data while tools such as the ‘brand machine’ was developed to allow users to discover what brands ebay had for sale.
